Food Outreach Program
The foundation that makes every other intervention possible
Many children around the landfill grow up in chronic food insecurity, with limited access to nutrition, clean water, and healthcare.
At Grace Honduras, a daily meal often means far more than food alone. It means relief, routine, safety, and the ability to focus on something beyond survival.
Over time, children begin to recognize Grace as a safe place where they will not be ignored, turned away, or forgotten.
Many children who arrive at Grace Honduras are living in extreme poverty around the San Pedro Sula landfill. Many have searched for food inside the garbage dump itself. Others arrive at school having eaten little or nothing at all.
For many of them, the meal they receive at Grace may be the only complete meal they have that day. Hunger affects every aspect of life; a child cannot concentrate, regulate emotions, or learn while surviving constant food insecurity.
This program exists because food is not separate from education. It is what makes education possible. For many families, food was the first reason they enrolled their children at Grace Honduras. Over time, it became the bridge that connected them to education, emotional care, safety, and community. We currently serve daily meals and provide nutritional support to over 150 children.
